Basic puja

It was almost dawn. The puja has to be done before sunrise, the mason said. A coconut, a bunch of bananas, a tumbler to hold the coconut water, a few agarbathis, a string of flowers and bright red kumkum to adorn the new little trowel and to anoint the old rock as a symbol of the divine.

We may have argued over rates and timings and conditions  before this.

But for the few minutes it took to break the coconut and light the camphor , all of us present  were united in prayer and goodwill, hoping that the retaining wall we are going to build will be fine.
