Incredible India

‘Incredible India !

Motto to woo tourists’

So said a slogan on the side of two huge buses.

I guess it is incredible that we use a foreign language to unite all of us and use it in all sorts of terrifically innovative ways. Like the spelling of omelet which is never spelt in the same way in two tea shops and yet we all get it, don’t we?

I see a group of labourers sharing their evening tea with a couple of monkeys every evening

And at the market, when I asked the vendor why there were tomatoes dotting the broccoli, she said, with a beam, ‘for show’, in English of course.

I do wish foreigners could see us for what we are beyond the snakes and elephants and sadhus and whatever they come looking for.

Ordinary but Incredible people!

Like this 6 year old carrying home a branch twice his size  for firewood after school

  1. Thanks Michael. Very flattering. We’ve had incredible people like Gandhi, Buddha, Mahavira, Vivekananda, Ramakrishna walk our land . But the rest of us, we’re just average people.
